Our Services

At Slab N Burl Hardwoods, we specialise in the sourcing, preparation, and supply of premium native timber slabs and burls from Western Australia’s South West.

Scouring South West farmland and acting on intel, we save what we can of these ancient and historical giants. Windswept, storm-damaged and occasionally cleared the old-growth trees that survived the early settlers deserve to be respected.

Preserving the natural beauty of local hardwoods is something to take pride in. Striving to keep each tree’s trunk as close to its natural form as possible isn’t easy, but the results are unique, enduring, and beautiful.

Every tree, each story, now has the chance to continue.

SALVAGING

Giving forgotten trees a second life

When trees fall or reach the end of their life, landowners are often left with a mess. Without the tools or time to process them, these once-mighty trunks are typically left to decay or pushed into piles for disposal.

That’s where we come in.

With minimal impact and deep respect for the land, we:

    •    Visit the site to assess the quality of the timber.

    •    Remove the crown and root system for full inspection.

    •    Recover usable timber directly from the ground.

    •    Pay the property owner for salvaged logs.

    •    Heap remaining material to clear space for future use.

    •    Offer on-site milling services if needed.

We aim to preserve as much natural form and character as possible. The result isn’t just sustainable — it’s personal. Each slab tells the story of the land it came from and the life it once lived.

The journey

MILLED, STACKED, SEASONED AND DRESSED

Slow process. Refined result.

Our process begins with a water-cooled bandsaw, carefully slicing each log to reveal the grain, figure and natural beauty within. Every slab is then stacked with precision, using evenly spaced battens to promote stable, even airflow — a crucial step in preventing warping, cupping or cracking.

Each slab is air-dried under shelter for over five years. This slow, chemical-free method allows the timber to season naturally. Deepening it’s colour, enhancing it’s texture and preserving its structure.

Once fully cured, the slab is dressed flat with a machine capable of levelling 6.5. m in length and 1.8 m in width. We offer this service to those who have their own timber.
